TransmogChange how your gear looks in WoW Forever

At your first login, the game makes you choose between Classic and Enhanced. With Classic, other players’ transmog is hidden; with Enhanced, you see it. You can change your mind later at a transmogrifier.

At a transmogrifier (where to find her), the first option opens the window and the second turns transmog off. Talk to her again to turn it back on.

Turned off, transmog keeps filling your collection, and you can still set your own look and hide your helm or cloak.

Not settled yet. The game’s option says other players stop seeing your transmog once you turn yours off, but nobody has checked it from another player’s screen. And the client has a message, You cannot change your outfit while Opted out of Transmog, where Blizzard said you could still set your own look with transmog off.

No other city has one yet: not Ironforge, Darnassus, the Undercity, Thunder Bluff, or Valanaar, the Skyborne city. A Skyborne or a tauren has a trip to make.

A third one, Spellweaver Thaldris, waits inside the City of Dalaran, one of Forever’s new dungeons, still closed to players.

Your collection serves all your characters, of either faction, as long as they can wear the armor type: mail looted on an Undead paladin shows up on an Alliance hunter.

To see what you have, open the Account Collections window and its Appearances tab. Until you own a look, the item’s tooltip says You haven't collected this appearance

A transmog belongs to the slot, not to the item. Put on a new chestpiece and it keeps the look you chose: no need to go back to town after every upgrade.

Each slot can show nothing at all, chest and legs included.

Forever has no box in the options to hide your helm or cloak: do it at the transmogrifier. Players who turned transmog off still see your helm and cloak hidden, as in the original game.

For each weapon, the window offers Sheathe On Back, Sheathe On Side or Hide While Sheathed. That is how daggers end up across a rogue’s back in this screenshot, the transmog picture of the week on Reddit.

With Transmog Each Shoulder Separately, each shoulder gets its own look, and each is paid for separately.

A piece only takes the look of a piece of the same armor type. Blizzard gave the example of a paladin healing in a cloth robe: only another cloth robe’s look can go on it.

An outfit keeps one look per armor type for each slot. Set mail gloves and plate gloves, and the right look shows on whichever gloves you wear. Cloaks, shirts and tabards have no armor type, so any look fits them.

Weapons work the same way, with one look per kind: one-handers, two-handers, shields, off-hand items and ranged weapons each keep their own. Switch from a two-hander to a sword and shield and the outfit follows.

Until level 60, a look cannot come from an item of a higher level than the one it goes on. The game refuses with The item currently equipped in this slot is too low level for this appearance. This limit, which the modern game does not have, goes away at 60.

PvP gear that asks for a rank keeps asking for it: you need the rank to wear its look.

Wearing the look of the Fang set does not give the snake form: the druid still turns into a cat (Griftin tested it). The snake form needs the five real pieces, see my snake form guide.

The price depends on the item whose look you take and on the slot: a chest costs twice as much as a belt, a two-hander six times as much. At low level you pay in copper; a player paid 95 copper for a robe.

Your first change on each character is free (the window shows Free Transmog outfit update available), and it works only once: keep it for the day you redo your whole outfit.

You start with 2 outfits. The next ones cost gold, from 10 silver for the third to 100 gold each for the last ten, up to 50 in all. In the modern game the same slots cost a thousand times more: 100 gold for the third.

The eight after the free ones cost 12 gold 65 silver together. At that price, buy them as soon as you have the gold.

The Situations tab switches your outfit by itself: in town, in a dungeon, in water, in the rain, at night, or with one specialization or equipment set. Forever kept the modern game’s list, minus delves and player housing.

The Custom Sets tab keeps looks you like without spending an outfit slot, and /outfit and /customset put a link in the chat that other players can open to see it.
