WoW Forever

Get ready for level 30Everything the WoW Forever beta opens from 21 to 30, class by class

Level 30 comes to the beta on October 1, after a long maintenance: it starts around 11am Pacific time (the evening in Europe), and the realms come back several hours later. It is the beta’s last cap: it stays until the beta ends on October 21.

Before you log back in, plan your next ten levels: where your ten talent points go (two new rows open in every tree), what your trainer will teach you (6 to 17 abilities depending on your class, and what Forever changed in them), which dungeons and zones to level in, and how to earn your Legacy points.

What level 30 brings

Your class from 21 to 30

Pick your class. Each line is a level: the abilities your trainer teaches at that level, with what Forever changed against Classic, then the new ranks of what you already have. Point at an icon for its tooltip from the beta client.

Warrior: 6 new abilities between 21 and 30, and 12 new ranks. Every level also gives a talent point.

These trees are the client’s of build 1.60.1.70124. Blizzard’s class deep dives announce talent changes with the level 30 build; this page follows them as soon as its files are read.

Dungeons from 20 to 30

Every dungeon a level 20 to 30 character can run, on one level scale. The bar is the level range the game gives it; the gold line is the beta’s cap, and the faded part beyond it waits for launch.

Dungeon quests pay about 3.3 times what they paid in Classic: on the beta, a dungeon’s quests can be worth a level or more. Each dungeon page lists its quests and who gives them.

Excavation Site: Wetlands (24 to 29) opens with the level 30 build (announced on October 1). City of Dalaran (28 to 33, under the city in the Alterac Mountains) does not: it comes in a later beta update. Both are Forever’s own, and their pages show what the files and the BlizzCon demo hold.

The city of Dalaran itself has been open since the start of the beta. The dungeon is entered through the sewers: from the Dalaran Sewers for the Alliance, from outside the city with a Dalaran Sewer Key for the Horde.

Most of their loot will stay out of sight until players find it: Blizzard keeps thousands of items hidden from the files. The hidden items guide counts them as they appear.

Legacy points within reach at 30

Legacy is Forever’s account-wide bonus system: challenges done on any of your characters give Legacy points, and you spend them on perks that every character of the account gets. It opens with your first point, which for most players is their first character at level 25 (Blizzard).

  1. Bring a character of each class to 25. The first time a class reaches 25 on your account, you get a point: up to nine, one per class. If it is your first point, Legacy opens.
  2. Collect the other challenges within reach. Each gives a point: 150 then 225 in each crafting profession, and Novice Spelunker, which asks for six dungeons: Ragefire Chasm or Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Wailing Caverns, The Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, Excavation Site: Wetlands. That last one needs the Excavation Site, which opens with this build.
  3. Spend up to 16 points. That is the beta’s cap for now. My first 10 go to Well Rested 5/5, then Talented 5/5: five more talent points, so 26 at level 30, which reaches row 6. Plan yours in the Legacy planner.

Points earned also fill the Progress Track: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle at 15 points and the Spectral Bear Cub at 25. Visit Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet to claim your reward.

PvP at level 30

Waiting for it to open

Darkspear Islands

Forever’s new battleground: 15 against 15 on the Darkspear tribe’s islands, off the coast of Kalimdor, with control points and flag captures like in Arathi Basin. Blizzard says it will open for testing as the beta continues, without a date. On October 1, Wowhead wrote that the level 30 build brings a new battleground, which can only be this one. Blizzard’s own posts do not say so.

In the game files, its first bracket is levels 30 to 39, which is why it comes up now. The goals it shows: capture and hold objectives, capture the Darkspear relic, earn 1,500 resources.

Its battlemaster, Bimble Sparkfingers, already stands in the Underbelly of Dalaran (Wowhead). Its two reputations are the Theramore Expeditionary Force for the Alliance and the Darkspear Raiders for the Horde. I will light this part up as soon as someone can queue for it.

Its reputation rewards that a level 30 can wear

All of them need level 28. Point at one to see its tooltip from the beta client.

Calendar

  1. The level cap goes from 20 to 30 and the Excavation Site opens: maintenance from about 11am Pacific time (the evening in Europe), and the beta back several hours later.
  2. Sign-up for The Forever Open closes at 10am Pacific time.
  3. The Forever Open, the level 30 duel tournament: qualifiers, then finals.
  4. The last full day of the beta.
  5. Name reservation: you create your characters before launch.
  6. Launch, at 3pm Pacific time.

The whole road to launch is on the beta page, and every change of each build on the patch notes.

  • The notes of the level 30 build. Blizzard promised them for October 1; I add what they change here.
  • When the City of Dalaran dungeon opens: Blizzard only says a later beta update.
  • Whether Darkspear Islands opens with this build.
  • Whether Shifting Power replaces the druid’s Tiger’s Fury in this build, and whether the level 30 class quests still give Berserker Stance and the Felhunter.
  • What the new dungeons drop: their items show up as players loot them.
