Choose one ring. Field Researcher’s Loop is rogue-only; Philanthropist’s Ring has no class restriction. The rings ask for no level, but the quest that gives them does: a player had no quest at 17, saw it grey at 19 and handed it in at 20 (September 24, 2026).

The first 10 books count toward the ring: you need 20 different books in total, not 30.

How to get the rewards

The questline is open to all classes, not just mages. A level 1 warrior has picked up the first quest in the beta. The rewards have no level requirement; Field Researcher’s Loop is restricted to rogues.

One important detail: the librarian only offers the quest if you’re already carrying a book.

Find a book
The books don’t drop from mobs. Each one is looted from a fixed object in the world: a bookshelf, a pile of scrolls, a tome sitting on a table, and so on.
The first set has 16 different books. Locations are listed below, with notes where a position comes from a player report or still needs confirmation in Forever.
Bring it to your librarian
Each book you turn in rewards a Comprehension Charm.

Collect your rewards at 10 and 20 books
Each book has its own quest, so you can turn them in as you find them. There’s no need to carry all 10 at once.
Your tenth turn-in unlocks Friend of the Library, which rewards the necklace.
Continue turning in different books. Your twentieth turn-in unlocks the ring reward.

For mages: Study

The librarians also give mages a quest of their own, Research Access, new in Forever. It opens Comprehension, a new mage skill, and its spell Study. We don’t know yet how many books it takes before the quest appears.

Study can be cast from level 6. It uses a Light Feather, takes 6 seconds, has a one hour cooldown and gives a Bundle of Scrolls. The spell says it needs a suitable library. The 17 bundles opened so far on Wowhead held Scroll of Minor Evocation, Scroll of Imbue Lesser Flame, Scroll of Imbue Chillknife, Scroll of Rat Familiar, and Scroll of Comprehension.

The maps below cover 19 different books: 15 from the first set and 4 from higher-level zones. Turn in any 10 for the necklace. For the ring you need one more: take it from the level 35 table further down. Rumi’s two locations count as one book.

One small detail: almost every book ends its description with some version of “A fine addition to any library’s collection.” Crimes Against Anatomy, written by Doctor Krastinov, is the exception: it’s only described as “a questionable addition.”

Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities
Not in the Sepulcher: players report searching it, downstairs near Sebastian Meloche included, and finding nothing, even though Wowhead’s Forever database still lists it there. Not behind Arugal in Shadowfang Keep either: the book there is the Black Tome, a quest item unrelated to the library. If you find it, tell us where.
